Exam Rules and Regulations

Examination Rules

·        Full school uniform is expected at all examinations. The rest of the school sees you as a group more than ever before and you need to set an example.

·        No bags or pencil cases are allowed.

·        No calculators unless specified for that exam are allowed. Calculators must not be in cases.

·        Water bottles are allowed but they are not to have labels.

·        No mobile phones are to be in the examination. Phones in bags left in a designated area must be turned off.

·        If you miss an examination you must contact the school immediately and get a message to Ms Lewis. She will organize the re-sitting of the examination. You will need to see Mrs Morrow to get a misadventure/illness form. Unless you do this the exam cannot count towards assessment. Mrs Morrow will notify class teachers if an examination cannot count.

·        Students will only be able to re-sit examinations during the examination period and the first day after that period.

·        Students must stay for the first 60 minutes of an exam and must not leave for the last 30 minutes of an exam.

These are Board of Studies rules and will apply for all senior school examinations as well as your HSC.

Expectations:

  • All students must follow the supervising teachers’ instructions and the school rules and values.
  • Problems or questions must only be addressed to the supervising teachers.  This is done by raising a hand and quietly waiting.
  • Students may not talk to, communicate with or share materials with another student during an examination.
  • Mobile phones, iPods and other electronic equipment are all prohibited in the examination room.  It may be appropriate for such items to be cared for at a central location such as the office.  It is preferred that students do not bring such items to school.
  • Students must not bring paper or materials of any type that may give an advantage during the examination into the examination room.
  • Students are not to behave in any manner at any time during the exam that disrupts their fellow students during the course of the examination.
  • Students should go to the toilet prior to exams but should they need to students must abide by the following guidelines while away from the exam room:

1.       Complete the exam register at the front of the room with their full name, and time;

2.      Students may use only the nearest toilets;

3.      Phone calls, locker visits etc are not allowed;

4.      Exit and return quietly.

The Coloured cards

Yellow:

THIS IS A WARNING.  You have been observed behaving in a way that does not meet exam expectations.

Your name and behaviour will be recorded

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DISCUSS THIS NOW.

The next step will be a Red Card and removal.

Red:

You have continued to behave poorly, or your behaviour has been extreme.

You are to leave the exam room now, quietly.

A teacher will then direct you to the Head Teacher or Deputy.

Consequences

Students will receive one official warning (a Yellow card) placed on their desk, then should the behaviour continue the student will be dismissed from the examination room (a Red card):

    • A yellow card is recorded with name, time, reason and name of teacher who observed the incident in the Exam register at the front of the room.  This is data based and will result in a call/letter home and an afternoon detention.
    • Staff members do not engage in a discussion of the reason at this time.  The yellow card states that it is a warning, the behaviour will be databased and further failure to comply with the expectations during the examination or test will result in a red card and removal from the examination room.
    • A red card is also recorded and the student will be required to go to the Head Teacher of the subject being examined. In general this means that where possible the student is escorted to the staffroom to await an interview.  This would be for a repeated and or severe instance of failing to meet the expectations of appropriate conduct during the examination or test, and would result in a data base entry and a suspension warning letter (involving the Deputy Principal) and an afternoon detention.  It may also result in other consequences depending on the result of the interview with the Head Teacher and or Deputy Principal.
    • Students who accumulate yellow cards over several exams will be picked up during normal Data base checking and will be referred to the Deputy through the appropriate welfare team for an interview and suspension warning for repeated disobedience.
