Muswellbrook High School Sport

Muswellbrook High School offers a variety of sporting opportunities for students in a range of recreational and competitive sports. The school’s expanding sports program includes a diverse range of activities such as: boxing, swimming, indoor soccer, basketball, squash, lawn bowls, water polo, power walking, skating/scootering, tennis, girl’s fitness and weights training.

The sports on offer are ever changing to provide students with the best and widest variety of opportunities to become passionate about health and physical activity. Integrated sport has been introduced for students in year 7. Here, students continue to learn and develop practical movement skills and exhibit their sporting prowess in an enthusiastic environment enhancing teamwork and peer relationships. Year 7 students also participate in the Heart Foundation’s ‘Jump Rope for Heart’ program. Muswellbrook High School fosters an environment that encourages participation in various traditional sports including: rugby league, touch football, netball, cricket, soccer, basketball and volleyball.

Muswellbrook High School organises three school carnivals each year (Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics) and successful students move on towards Zone, Regional and State level from these carnivals. Students compete at school carnivals under their house groups and colours of: Goulburn (red), Hunter (green), Page (yellow) and Paterson (blue).

Muswellbrook High School has had numerous students each year representing the Hunter Region in sports such as: swimming, cross country, basketball, touch football, hockey, rugby league as well as representatives in the NSW Special Olympics, AIS rugby league teams, NSW CHS basketball and NSW swimming championships.

The school has had continued positive results in CHS representative sports with the Open Boys Basketball, Hockey and Volleyball and Touch teams making into the top 16 of the state in their respective competitions in the past 5 years.
